7/10/19 Christmas in July

 In Silver State

Project Lead – Kris Wells

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the AT&T Pioneers hosted its first ‘Christmas in July’ Back to School event at the Greater Nevada Field in downtown Reno, NV.

Over 260 backpacks were filled with a 45-piece school supply kit that included a pencil case, pencils, pens, scissors, notebooks, erasers and ruler as well as hygiene items. The AT&T Pioneers also provided some ballpark treats!

Selected local children had the opportunity to take pictures with Santa, KNPB PBS show Daniel Tiger, Reno Aces Archie, Washoe County SWAT, Sheriff Balaam and K9 team members. In addition, kids were provided with free books donated by KNPB Channel 5 and also could learn about the Girls on the Run organization.

There were lots of happy, smiling kids and adults at this awesome event!

Special thanks to all our Silver State Pioneers who helped with this 1st Christmas in July event! Sheryl Stopper, Billie Augustine, and Kris Wells stuffed a few hundred backpacks a couple of days prior to the event which was a lot of work! Big kudos to Kris Wells as project lead for working with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in planning and ordering all supplies needed to make this event happen!
