The Carson Valley Life Member Social Club collected socks and donated them to RCIL & Do Drop In in Carson City. Great job!

Home Activity Kits – Community Chest
In August, the Silver State Pioneers donated 52 home activity kits to Community Chest in Virginia City for their youth and family programs in Storey and Lyon counties. These kits for children were filled with activity books, colored pencils, puzzles, bubbles and many other fun items. Special thanks to Jackie Boyden, Life Member rep, for leading this project! Over 20 volunteers participated mainly our Life Members with more than 100 volunteer hours! Community Chest greatly appreciates these kits for the many youth who are at home during this time of COVID-19.

Christmas in July 2020
The 2nd Annual Christmas in July with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office was held on 7/25. Many thankful families came out to this event with drive through or walk up stations. Lunch was provided to children and adults from Firehouse Subs with other goodies that included PPE and care kits. AT&T Pioneers provided hundreds of backpacks and school supplies. Kids were also excited to meet Santa and Sheriff Balaam!

Be There Project
Pioneer members delivered snacks, festive balloons, pizza and other goodies to show appreciation to our frontline workers during these challenging times with the COVID-19 pandemic. Deliveries were made in April and May to our essential workers!

Eddy House Helpers – April and May 2020

Silver State CANstruction Project to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada
New Silver State Chapter project – Sculpting an End to Ameri-can Hunger
The AT&T Pioneers have created the wind-up to aid hunger in our community the Ameri-Can way. Just like this sculpture, food insecurities are supported from the ground up. Volunteerism is executed with a strong foundation, evolution of progress and strategic planning to best help those in need. Red, white and blue are a display of American pride which aligns with the core Pioneer value of charity. The creation of these colorful can labels reveals the demand to feed our neighbors in need. And the collaborative efforts of our volunteers to build this design exhibits the Pioneer legacy. Confident.Committed.Connected. Can-Structed.
Starting with design meetings in January and culminating with the actual build on March 11,2020, the AT&T Silver State Pioneers, life members and others came together to participate in the CANstruction project. We had a very unique design that led us to victory in two categories – Best Original Design and People’s Choice. We contributed a total of 1,252 cans of food and raised $171.00 for the Food Bank through votes, which translated into 1,504 meals! We logged over 100 hours and had new volunteers participate in this fun and rewarding first time project.

Eddy House Helpers – January to March 2020
In late 2019, the Silver State Pioneers started working with the Eddy House serving homeless and at risk youth in Reno, NV. The Eddy House planned to move to a new location and expand their services to open a 24-hour center. Silver State supported this organization with a donation of much needed items for the new facility funded from a Community Engagement grant. The Silver State chapter also committed to providing one meal a month from January to March 2020.
Working together as a team for the last 3 months, 10 active employees and life members provided delicious meals making a difference in this organization! In early February, the facility was officially opened as a 24-hour center increasing the need for both breakfast and dinner meals as the facility does not have a commercial kitchen. The chapter was able to transition to providing home-cooked dinners such as sloppy joes, pulled pork, tacos, pasta with meatballs along with sides, salads and desserts which fed between 25-40 youth.
During the February meal delivery, many Pioneers also participated in the AT&T Believe Nevada project to fill 100 To Go bags that included snack items and AT&T and the Pioneers received positive media coverage. That same day, the chapter also donated much needed items such as crockpots, air fryer, lunch items and several bulk snack products.
The Silver State chapter has committed to providing a dinner a month from April-June. Much has changed in the last month due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the chapter will continue to provide support to this very deserving organization. The Silver State Chapter is thankful for our many volunteers for their time and support of the Eddy House Helpers project with over 50 volunteer hours in 2020.

12/23/19 Rosewood Care Home Christmas Party
A big Thank You goes out to all the active and retired Pioneers and friends who helped make the Rosewood Care Home Christmas Party a success. Gifts were supplies to 50 Residents (20 women and 30 men) who would have no Christmas without the generosity of others. The gifts were distributed by Santa (aka Larry Gibbs and his elves on a cold Monday morning in December. The residents were excited and anticipating the fun to start. After breakfast they returned to their rooms so Santa would know where they were. Santa’s Elves helped the residents open their gifts and remove the wrappings. Everyone enjoyed seeing what others received. Fun was had by all and now we start planning for next Christmas. Thank You from Project Leads – Jackie Boyden and Sheryl Stopper

2019 Holiday Food Drive
The food drive brought in 138 pounds of food which equals 115 meals for families in our community! Donations help the food bank feed more than 91,000 children, seniors, veterans and families in our region every month. Thanks to every who donated!
